Introduction
Welcome to your guide for the eero Mesh WiFi system. The eero app on your smartphone is your central command center for everything related to your home network. Whether you need to fix a buffering issue, check your speeds, or add a new device to eliminate dead zones, it can all be done in a few easy taps.
Feel free to visit the official eero support page for more information.
Finding or Changing Your Wi-Fi Password
Whether you have guests over or just bought a new smart TV, you'll eventually need to pull up your Wi-Fi password. The eero app makes it incredibly easy to view, share, or change your network credentials.
To view or share your password:
- Open the eero app.
- Navigate to Settings > Wifi name & password.
- Here, you will see your network name and password in plain text.
- If you want to share it quickly with a friend, tap Share QR code to let them scan your screen, or tap Share wifi details to send it via text or email.
To change your password:
- From that same menu (Settings > Wifi name & password), simply tap on the password field.
- Type in your new password.
- Tap Save in the top-right corner.
Note: If you change your Wi-Fi name or password, all of your currently connected devices (phones, TVs, smart plugs) will disconnect. You will need to go to each device and manually reconnect them using the new credentials.
Rebooting
If your stream is buffering or a device won't connect, a simple reboot is often the best first step. You don't even need to get up and unplug anything!
To restart your entire network:
- Open the eero app.
- Navigate to Settings > Network settings > Restart network.
- Confirm the restart. Your network will be temporarily offline for a few minutes while the system reboots.
To restart a single eero (if only one room is having issues):
- On the Home tab, tap the specific eero you want to reboot (e.g., "Living Room").
- Scroll down and tap Restart eero.
Running Speed Tests
Curious if you are getting the internet speeds you pay for? The eero app automatically runs a speed test every few days, but you can trigger one manually at any time.
- Open the eero app.
- Navigate to Home > Internet > Run speed test.
Note: This tests the speed coming directly into your main eero gateway from your internet provider, not the wireless speed from the eero to your phone.
Viewing Data Usage
If you want to see which devices are using the most bandwidth (like a gaming console downloading a massive update or a TV streaming in 4K), you can easily check your data usage.
- Open the eero app.
- Tap the Activity tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Data usage to see live usage (which updates every 5 seconds) or view your historical usage. You can also tap on individual profiles or connected devices to see their specific drain on the network.
Adding Authorized Users
If you want to share network management duties with a partner, roommate, or family member, you can add them as an admin. This allows them to do things like pause the wifi or manage connected devices.
- Open the eero app.
- Navigate to Settings > User permissions > Invite admin.
- You can either have the new user scan the generated QR code on your screen with their smartphone, or tap Share invite link to text or email them an invitation.
Note: The new admin will need to download the eero app and create their own eero account to accept the invite.
Adding a New Eero
Expanding your coverage to the backyard, basement, or a new home office? Adding a new eero node to your existing mesh network takes less than five minutes.
- Plug your new eero into a power outlet in the desired location.
- Open the eero app.
- Tap the blue + (plus icon) in the top right corner of the home screen.
- Navigate to Add or Replace eero Devices > Add eero device.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to register and test the placement of your new node.
Running a Software Update
eero regularly releases operating system updates to improve performance, security, and add new features. While these usually happen automatically overnight, you can manually check for and install updates to ensure you have the latest version.
- Open the eero app.
- Navigate to Settings > Software updates.
- If a new version is available, tap Install now.
Note: Software updates can take 15 to 20 minutes. Your network will go offline briefly while the update installs and your eero units reboot.
