Arm, Disarm, and Home Modes
Your Ring Alarm system operates in three distinct modes. Understanding when to use each one is the key to securing your home without triggering false alarms.
- Disarmed (Shield with an 'X'): All alarm sensors are deactivated. You can freely open doors and walk past motion detectors without the alarm sounding. (Note: Your cameras will still record based on their individual settings).
- Home (Shield with a person inside): Arms your perimeter. Your exterior door and window sensors are armed, but your interior motion detectors are ignored. This allows you to sleep or walk around inside your house freely while the outside is secure.
- Away (Shield with a person walking outside): Arms everything. All door, window, and interior motion sensors are activated. Use this only when the house is completely empty.
How to change modes:
- Using the Ring App: Open the app. At the very top of your main Dashboard, tap the icon for the mode you want to activate.
- Using the Keypad: Enter your 4-digit access code, then press the Disarmed, Home, or Away button.
View Devices
To check the status of your security system, or to see if a specific door or window is currently open, you can view all of your alarm components in one place.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap the Menu (☰) icon in the top left corner.
- Navigate to Devices > Alarm Base Station.
- Here, you will see a complete list of your connected Keypads, Contact Sensors (doors/windows), Motion Detectors, and Range Extenders. It will also show you at a glance if any doors are currently "Open" or "Closed."
View Battery Health
Most of your Ring Alarm sensors run on batteries that can last for months or even years. When a battery is getting low, the Ring app will alert you, but you can also check their health manually at any time.
- Open the Ring app.
- Navigate to Menu (☰) > Devices > Alarm Base Station.
- Tap on the specific sensor or keypad you want to check.
- On the device's dashboard, look for the Battery Level icon in the top right corner. It will indicate if the battery is full, partial, or needs to be replaced.
Notification Settings
You have complete control over what your alarm system notifies you about. You can customize push notifications to your phone, as well as the audio "chirps" your Base Station makes when a door opens.
To manage Push Notifications (App Alerts):
- Open the Ring app and tap the Menu (☰) icon.
- Navigate to Settings > Alarm Alerts.
- Here, you can toggle push notifications and emails on or off for when your system is armed/disarmed, or when a device's battery is running low.
To manage Door "Chirps" (Audio Alerts): If you want to hear a chime through your Base Station or Keypad every time the front door opens while the system is disarmed:
- Open the Ring app.
- Navigate to Menu (☰) > Devices > Alarm Base Station.
- Select the specific door or window sensor.
- Toggle Chirp Tones on or off. You can also tap it to select a specific sound for that specific door.
